Education:

Invest in Every Kid in Our District

New Mexico's school challenges are well known, but the solutions start locally. Children in rural southeastern New Mexico deserve the same quality of education as students anywhere else in the state and Liam will make that case loudly in Santa Fe.

What Liam will do:

Full, fair funding for rural schools. Fight to ensure the state's school funding formula gives rural and small districts a fair share including weighted funding for sparse populations and high transportation costs.

Teacher pay and retention. Support continued teacher salary increases and push for rural recruitment incentives including housing assistance and student loan forgiveness for educators who commit to underserved districts.

Early childhood education. Expand access to Pre-K and home visiting programs across the district, which evidence consistently shows produce the strongest long-term returns on investment.

Career and technical education (CTE). Strengthen CTE programs in district high schools so students who don't pursue a four-year degree still graduate with credentials that translate directly into good-paying local jobs.

Support for Mescalero Apache students. Work in partnership with tribal leadership to address chronic underfunding of schools serving Mescalero Apache students and ensure culturally responsive education options are resourced and respected.
